This Management story by CHRIS MENEZE is told ‘on-line’ to develop managerial skills required to become a good manager and team player. The two characters of story, a hair and a tortoise, are initially rivals but eventually become friends. The objective of this programme is to focus on following outcome:
- Root cause analysis (RCA)
- Team work
- Situational leadership
- Core competency
- Collaborative thinking
On Root cause analysis (RCA), no matter how good a problem solver you are, or how hard you work, you’ll end up in trouble if you spend your time treating symptoms. A CEO lost his job because he failed his company by trying to treat symptoms that he thought were problems.
The real problem starts when a company has grown but not evolved.
We simply do more of what gets us to be successful without ever asking if it was still the right way to run a much larger business
A core competency is a concept in management theory introduced by, C. K. Prahalad and Gary Hamel.
It can be defined as ‘a harmonized combination of multiple resources and skills that distinguish a firm in the marketplace’.
Core competencies fulfill criteria related to selection of right people for right jobs. Core competency is something that a firm can do well and that meets the following three conditions:
· Consumer benefits
· Is not easy for competitors to imitate
· Can be leveraged widely to many products/markets
